Resources for New Families
New Parent Welcome Events
Welcome to ISH and in some cases, welcome to Finland! The PTO is here to help new parents and their families settle easily into life at ISH. We hold welcome receptions (coffee events) 3-4 times per year. Each grade also has a Homeroom Parent who helps to connect and make new families feel part of our community from the start. If you would like to be connected with your Homeroom Parent, ask your Homeroom Teacher or feel free to contact us: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Community Coordinators & Welcome TeamThe PTO currently has Community Coordinators in place for Japan, India, Russia, France/Spain and Korea. Our Welcome Team comprises these leaders as well as Finnish points of contact to welcome you to Helsinki and to serve as friendly faces and helpful resources. Please see our 'Who We Are' page for the friendly faces to look out for! We are also positioned to help with language issues and to create connections to families from your home country. With more than 50 nations represented at ISH, you're bound to find friends quickly, and we can help! More information will be provided to you throughout the admissions process.
‘New in Helsinki’ Workshops
The PTO welcomes Helsinki Marketing (www.myhelsinki.fi) to ISH for two parent workshops each school year, once in the fall and once in mid-January. These information-packed presentations provide new families with essential information to help them settle in quickly and easily, and to help them enjoy living in Helsinki. Even parents who have lived here for years walk away with lots of fun tips and inspiring new ways to re-discover Helsinki!
PTO New Family Handbook
The PTO organizes and publishes every year a ‘Handbook for New Families.’ It is jam-packed with useful information for new and existing ISH families and is updated regularly. Please contact us if you would like a digital or hard copy: email@example.com
