Events & Communications

PTO Events

General Meetings - Held once per month in the Cafetorium, our PTO meetings provide a forum for discussing school news and events, upcoming PTO events and community initiatives. Typically, we welcome a guest speaker with a theme or topic of interest in mind. They are informal, social and all are welcome to join for coffee and a chat. Please refer to the school calendar for meeting dates. Reminders will also be posted on Facebook and on the ‘PTO Corner’ Bulletin Board in the Hall of Flags. If you have an idea for a meeting or just need information, please contact ish.pto@ishelsinki.

Social Events - The PTO organizes social and community building events throughout the year, both in and out of school. In school, we organize welcome events for new families and a wide range of fun activities for parents, teachers and students, including Trunk-or-Treat in October, the Winter Light Festival in December and the International Spring Fair in April. We also coordinate local group excursions, cultural tours, lunches and off-campus activities for ISH families. If you have ideas, and/or would like to get involved, please contact Natalie Paries, our Social Events Director at

Philanthropy Events – The PTO also works closely with local philanthropic organizations, including HOPE,, and MLL, Mannerheimin Lastensuojeluliitto,, to realize thoughtful community events. We try to include as many of our students, teachers and parents as we can in our school-wide service learning initiatives. Our annual events, including our Winter Light Festival and our International Spring Fair both have important charitable themes and celebrate ISH's extraordinary diversity. Please contact Amanda Hickey, our Philanthropy Director at with ideas or for more information.

Teacher Appreciation Events - Twice a year, the PTO organizes teacher appreciation events, in the form of a luncheon and/or a coffee reception, to recognize the amazing teachers who devote themselves every day to our children. If you would like to get involved, or have ideas about how we can tribute our faculty and staff, please contact Meg Bartmess, our Learning & Teaching Director at

Cooking Classes - The PTO organizes regular cooking classes with the help of parent volunteers. Our goal is to bring people together, to try new recipes and to experience food from all over the world. We are always looking for volunteers, so if you have a beautiful kitchen, or if you are a fabulous chef, or just a foodie who would like to have lunch together with friends, all are welcome! Please contact Mie Emukai, our Cooking Club Coordinator at for more information.

Health & Wellbeing - We organize weekly Yoga, Bootcamp, Zumba and Pilates -- all taught in English and for a very reasonable price. Please contact Francine Tchoumi and Annemari Nigola, our Health & Wellbeing Co-Chairs, at for more information.

Movies & More - The PTO organizes movies and cultural excursions for parents who might enjoy the cinema or a beautiful museum with friends. If you’re interested in joining us, please watch our PTO Facebook page and the ‘PTO Corner’ in the Hall of Flags for upcoming event information. Questions and requests can be directed to Mari Walker, our Movies & More Club Chair at

Grownups' Night Out (GNO) - Yes, every now and then, we relax, too! One night each month, we organize a purely social night out for Moms & Dads. Together, we check out new restaurants around town and can get to know each other off-campus. Anna Frydenlund is our GNO Coordinator and loves requests:

Our private Facebook page is an interactive platform for parents to connect and to share information. To join, please visit the PTO Facebook Page and click ‘Join Group.’ Please message the names and grades of your child(ren) to show that you are an ISH parent. The group administrator will verify your information and give you access.

We publish and distribute by email a semi-monthly Newsletter which summarizes all upcoming PTO events and initiatives. Also included is "Leadership Corner," which features a regular column with Kathleen Naglee, ISH's Head of School.

The PTO posts flyers about upcoming PTO-sponsored events in the ‘PTO Corner’ on the large bulletin board in the Hall of Flags. Please check back regularly for updates.

We also rely on our amazing Homeroom Parents to help convey important updates to class parents. Every grade has a Homeroom Parent. If you do not know who yours is, or might like to volunteer for next year, please let us know! Contact: Meg Bartmess, our Learning & Teaching Director at
