Beyond the Classroom
ISH provides a wide range of educational experiences that go beyond the classroom. We endeavour to take learning out of the classroom setting from an early age by getting outside with our youngest learners and taking field trips within Helsinki and beyond.
There are overnight field trips beginning in the PYP Programme. In one of their units of inquiry on ancient civilisations, these students go and stay in a Viking Village in the southwest of Finland.
In the Middle and High Schools, the school provides action-orientation trips to different destinations. These trips combine real world study to bring our curriculum to life with physical activities and cultural experiences.
ISH provides a vibrant range of After School Activities (ASAs), including sports teams, music, art drama and other clubs. We have a thriving Debate and Model United Nations programme in our Upper School. The ASAs are described in more detail under our 'Student Life' section of this website.
ISH is part of the Central of Eastern European School Association (CEESA). The CEESA network of schools take part in different sports and activities events across the region. So, in Middle and High School it is possible to be part of a soccer team in a tournament in Sofia, or to go to Prague for a Math Counts competition.
ISH offers different After School Language classes, which are also described in more detail in the 'Student Life' section.
All ISH students are encouraged to be involved in different age-appropriate local and global action projects. We try to nurture 'thoughtful action' by talking about the intention, effectiveness and sustainability of different projects.
