An International Education

ISH is a caring, inclusive and truly diverse community. We have over forty different nationalities in our school. Many of our students have already lived overseas in different countries. They are in the process of becoming global citizens. We want them to be empowered to be successful in our evermore connected and changing world.

If we are truly serving this generation of students we must be intentional about nurturing cultural intelligence. Our global citizens will live and work across borders. To thrive they will need the soft skills that help get the best out of people with very different cultural norms.

At ISH we are doing pioneering research into how our culture affects the way we learn. We have developed a questionnaire model that maps cultural habits to learning preferences. This questionnaire has been adopted by the Council of International Schools (CIS), who are partnering on a global pilot of this initiative. We can measure success with building cross-cultural communication. Our teachers are developing their understanding of how to pay attention to cultural differences in our classrooms and genuinely draw on different perspectives to enrich the learning.

At a social level, our families make friends with people from all over the world. Our students grow up to be open-minded about diversity and to celebrate differences.
