ISH Leadership Team
Peter Welch is the Head of School at the International School of Helsinki. Originally from England, he has spent most of his career in very different kinds of schools overseas, in Africa, Asia, Europe and North America. Previously, he was the Director at Istanbul International Community School and the American Pacific International School in Thailand. He started his career as a voluntary English teacher before working in international schools teaching history and politics. His wife, Suzanne, is an artist and hails from Toronto, Canada. His daughter, Gabrielle, is in the MYP programme.
Robin Schneider is currently the Deputy Head of School. He has been the Upper School Principal at ISH for four years before taking on this K-12 role. Prior to ISH, he worked in Japan and Korea at very different international schools as an administrator. He has worked in IB and AP school around the world. Robin is Canadian and has been educated in Canada, the United States and now started his doctorate at Bath University in the UK with a focus on Cultural Understanding within Education. He his married to Manami, who is from Japan. They have one son, who is in our Lower School.
Jenni Katz-Miller has worked at ISH since beginning of 2012. She started as Accounts Manager and was later promoted to the role of Business Manager. She studied Accounting and Business Law in Helsinki School of Economics (now Aalto University) and graduated with her Master’s degree. Before ISH, she worked for a consulting company, in the areas of audit, tax and outsourcing services. At ISH Ms. Katz-Miller leads the Business and Facilities Teams. Jenni is married with four children.
Rachel Curle is currently the Lower School Assistant Principal at the International School of Helsinki. She joined ISH in 2011 as a Kindergarten Teacher. Prior to coming to Helsinki she taught in Singapore and Scotland. Having worked in international schools for most of her career, she has had the privilege of enjoying roles both as a teacher and leader in a variety of school settings. This includes teaching in the Early Years; teaching as an Art specialist; and also the roles of PYP Coordinator and Kindergarten Principal. Rachel has a long standing interest in progressive, innovative education and is passionate about student learning. An avid reader with a love for travel and learning languages, Rachel especially enjoys the tranquility of Finnish nature and spending time outdoors with her family and dog.
Minna Tammivuori-Piruax is currently the Upper School Assistant Principal at the International School of Helsinki. She joined ISH in 2002 after having worked in various Finnish schools as French and German teacher. At ISH Minna has been teaching French in PYP, MYP and DP. In addition to her teaching role, she has undertaken different leadership roles as Personal Project Coordinator, Language Acquisition Subject Area leader, MYP Coordinator and Occupational Health and Safety Officer. Minna has a keen interest in supporting students’ individual learning process as well as building strategies for their independent learning. In her spare time, Minna enjoys exercising, reading and spending time with family and friends. Her husband, Olivier, works also at the ISH as French teacher and they have a 3-year old daughter, Selma.
